Steven Spielberg's epic film of the adventures of a horse during World War I is an extremely attractive film, but feels like little more than a classic Disney-style family film. John William provides another beautiful and grandly triumphant score, but further adds to the cheesiness of the film. The acting is mediocre to unbearable. There is one incredible scene that is absolutely stunningly filmed in which the titular horse is racing through battlegrounds. This scene is followed by unlikely humorous dialogue between opposing forces trying to set the horse free from barbed wire. Though this scene is, once again, a bit cheesy, it is amazing and memorable. Exciting moments like this one are occasionally sprinkled in this movie making it worth taking a single view. Otherwise, there is nothing innovative or unexpected here.
